Verteramo Pipes began after several years of experimenting with different fruit woods and then connecting with pipe makers, particularly Ludwig Lorenz, whose work style he admires.
Matias Verteramo
In 2020, Matias Verteramo decided to become a pipe maker exclusively, purchasing his first batch of Italian Briar, Ukrainian Morta, and Olive wood. His designs are mostly curved or Danish-style pipes (which are his favorite). He works with antique rustication and freehand drilling using the lathe headstock. He machines only about 15% of the pipe in total, preferring natural finishes to alcohol-based dyes. He makes the acrylic for his mouthpieces himself, coloring them with pigments extracted from plants in a pigmentation process that requires months of preparation.
Over the years, his sales have expanded to the US, Europe, and parts of Africa. Currently, his production is increasing, reaching over 100 pipes per year. Although his designs focus on function over form, he remains convinced that we learn something new every day (mostly from mistakes) and that the perfect piece doesn't exist.
